  • Oakstone Directions is a program dedicated to preparing students for life after high school.  The Oakstone Directions staff are committed to providing transitional information, exploration, and experiences to assist students’ in reaching their full potential and independence as an adult.

  • Directions to Community Involvement

    • The primary emphasis in this Direction is promoting self-management & independent performance within the program, at home & in the community

    • Communication skills focus to support all aspects of adult life

    • Academics center on how concepts support daily living and promote independence

    • Students are offered on-site opportunities to explore and develop specific vocational skills preparing them to move into community based experiences & internships(non paid)

    • Students have stable self-management skills & spend time exploring their interests & strengths as related to future career & independent living

    • They will develop character attributes required for sustained independent employment

    • Students will work toward academic credits necessary for graduation from high school & that promote workplace independence

    • Students will receive specialized, hands-on experiences related to a vocation under the direction of trade professionals on and off-site

    • Students will identify and understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship

    • They will learn appropriate dress for different social contexts and practice personal hygiene

    • Students will explore various avenues for living space and learn to perform banking tasks, food preparation, and generate a household budget.

 

 

 

  • Directions to Higher Education

    • Students will attend to academic credits needed for high school graduation while preparing to pass college entrance exams.

    • Students will be supported in exploring and making applications to colleges and technical schools.

    • Employment options are determined based on the student’s personal goals

    • Emphasis placed on time management skills between work and school

    • Internships (non paid) will be available to those who are able to efficiently manage their time.

    • Students will identify and understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship
