Speech Therapy

Our classroom speech therapists provide:

  • services according to their stated needs on the IEP in their natural environment (we often work right in the classroom with the students)
  • complete ETRs as part of the educational team
  • work closely with teachers to assist them with coursework modifications appropriate for students’ language levels
  • aim to increase a student’s expressive and receptive language skills in functional ways during class instruction
  • assist students and teachers with the use of augmentative communication in the "teaching moments" of the classroom (using devices, IPADS, PECS, scripts…)
  • focus on building and using age-appropriate social skills and inter-relational skills between students
  • build perspective talking skills so students learn to fit into social groups more effectively
  • plan and lead whole group social skills classes

Our private speech therapists provide:

  • therapy addressing goals from the treatment plan tailored to suit the student’s individual speech and language needs-these may reflect areas of need outside of the school environment
  • see students individually or in small groups depending on their needs
  • co-treat with occupational therapy
  • provide cooking groups that focus on fine motor skills, social skills, manners, and trying new foods using fun and nonthreatening approaches
  • Speech therapists are able to address: articulation and phonological errors, expressive and receptive language deficits, social skill deficits, the need for augmentative or alternative modes of communication, device acquisition, programming and training, and fluency concerns.
